Avatars with classic faces will cease to exist on Roblox in the coming months. The platform has set an official timeline that mandates conversion to dynamic heads, requires mandatory facial animations, and culminates in the permanent removal of the old faces. The change affects players, creators, and the entire Marketplace.

In practice, traditional items used for years across millions of accounts will undergo automatic transformation or be removed from circulation. Those who use static faces or create items based on them need to adapt now to avoid loss of visibility or sales.

Official timeline for removing faces on Roblox

Timeline of the removal of classic faces in Roblox
Roblox has defined a step-by-step process for converting, animating, and permanently removing classic faces.
  • February 2026 : all classic faces begin to be converted into Dynamic Heads , while maintaining their original appearance.
  • March 3rd : Static faces will now require mandatory facial animations; non-conforming heads will be removed from sale.
  • June 15th : Permanent removal of classic Roblox faces.

Creators will be notified and will be able to update items.

With the change, creators of existing classic 2D heads are being notified by email by Roblox. The platform has launched an official Marketplace update campaign that allows free adjustments to items to conform to the new standard.

On March 3rd , all Heads that do not meet the technical requirements will automatically be removed from sale . These items will no longer be sold, but they will not be deleted: creators can update them, correct facial animations, and relist them after compliance.

Dynamic Heads become a mandatory standard in Roblox.

The classic Roblox heads will be fully converted into Dynamic Heads equivalents, preserving the original look whenever possible. Starting in February 2026, this model will become the mandatory standard throughout Roblox, completely replacing the old Classic Heads .

This means there will be no more official support for heads without facial animations, ending a historic cycle for the platform's avatar system.

Why is Roblox removing classic faces?

Roblox says goodbye to classic faces.

The decision is part of a technical strategy to unify the avatar system and enhance the expressiveness of the characters. Static faces created under outdated standards have become incompatible with modern experiences, leading to visual glitches, animation limitations, and inconsistencies between games.

By imposing a single dynamic standard, Roblox reduces bugs, improves social immersion, and prepares the platform for more complex and interactive experiences.

Link to recent Marketplace updates

This permanent removal comes after Roblox tightened its rules for avatar heads on Marketplace, requiring full support for facial animations and rejecting items with technical flaws. The migration ends a historic exception and affects the entire creation ecosystem.

According to technical documentation published on the official developer forum, the migration to Dynamic Heads is considered a final and irreversible step in the new avatar system.

What to do now

Players don't need to take immediate action, but should expect automatic changes to their avatars' appearance throughout 2026. Creators need to urgently review their assets, monitor email notifications, and ensure all heads are compatible with facial animations.
